StreetKids Academy
StreetKids Academy is a non-profit whose goal is to effect change, provide hope and promote opportunity through education. Its target is Street Kids age 4yrs – 18 yrs in underdeveloped countries with an initial emphasis on cities in Africa.
It endeavors to create a model that can be utilized to set up schools for Street Kids rapidly and efficiently regardless of the city or country.
The proposed model is as follows:
School will be run from 8am – noon on Monday through Saturday at no cost to the student. A free hot lunch will be provided from noon until 1pm for those students that attend an entire morning session and whose behavior is acceptable.
When available, health checks and medical and/or dental treatment will be provided free on an occasional basis (dependent on resources like Doctors Without Borders, Mercy Ships etc). Students will have to attend the morning session to be eligible for the medical treatment.
An optional Homework Club will be provided for any student who needs help with the curriculum. The facility will be closed at 4pm on Monday through Saturday and closed all day on Sunday.
Students who have 90% attendance record over a 1-month period will be given a StreetKids Academy t-shirt. There will be subsequent gifts for 3-month, 6-month and
12-month attendance records.
The curriculum will include both academic and life skills.
